I found out I was pregnant last March. I can’t say that I was super excited, so much as I was scared. The fear quickly went away and the planning soon started. Being part of a young couple who just bought a new home, my fiance and I didn’t have a whole lot of cash left over for spending on a baby. And so, the research began.
Sure, a lot of things like the basics were obvious to me. Cloth diapers, not disposable. Just like my Mom did, and her’s before her and so on. Saves you thousands! Feeding seemed a little more complex. My first reaction was,”Breastfeeding, duh!” Yes, breast feeding will probably save me more than even cloth diapering. But… what if I can’t produce? Although the latter is rare, it is still a possibility and one that my own mother struggled from. I hope that that does not happen to me too, but I have to be prepared. Should that happen, my only option would be infant formula.
Boy, infant formula sure is pricey. Though I haven’t experienced this yet myself, I’ve found that it could run around $180/month, or $2160/year. In the case that I can’t breastfeed, I would need to find something that would cut my costs. Which brings me to the Similac Strong Moms program.
I found the Similac Strong Mom‘s program around month 4 or month 5 of my pregnancy. They advertise up to $329 in membership rewards, free formula and nutritional information and weekly emails. I personally have not received any emails from them, and I can honestly say that I am happy about that. Nobody likes junk mail, even if I did “sign up” for it. I also had not received a single mailer from them since I had signed up… until last Friday.
I was actually shocked to receive a package, but I knew exactly what it was. Similac had delivered me (4) $5 coupons for Similac infant formula and 2 different sample size containers of infant formula. One can is of the new Similac Advance Non-GMO Stage 1 and the other is Similac Sensitive Stage 1. Both cans are 8 oz. each. From what I can tell these to cans combined would last me a little under a week. It may not seem like much, but those cans saved me just about $30. Add in the coupons and they save an extra $20 dollars which saves me a good $50 just from the one box.
I don’t expect to receive any more infant formula from Similac, but they do claim that they will continue sending more coupons regularly. I do hope they keep to their word, but at the same time I hope I do not need their coupons. Only time will tell!
